So we have a 18-ish hour overnight layover in Manchester in September and need some tips.

All the fun stuff (Top Gear test track (RIP), McLaren HQ, F1 circuits, etc) is near London, and ManU doesn’t play that day. Besides hitting up the pub, what can we do? Car museums? Photographic opporunities?

Here’s some ghosted carbon fiber for your time.

Manchester to London on the train is only about 2 hours. If you want to, that’s not too far to travel.

Donnington’s not all that far from Manchester, but you’d probably need to rent a car to get there:

And depending on exactly what date you’re there:

Bummer, but you could check for rugby too. Don’t know much about the pro leagues over there.

Also a quick google search revealed something I didn’t know existed, Escape Games. Looks like they have 3 separate places that do it too.

If you have a car for these 18 hours I can recommend heading into the Peak District (east of Manchester, between Manchester and Sheffield. Great driving roads, and if you head for a pub called the Cat and Fiddle there will be about 40,000,000 bikers there. Or if walking is your thing get a train to somewhere in the peaks and go for a lovely walk (seriously). Its a very pretty part of the world.

Other than that, sadly Manchester is not my part of the world. Im about 15 minutes from Mclarens factory if that helps though :)

Museum of science and industry, it’s free and they’ve got a working Rocket replica.

Awesome thanks for the tips! I really wish I was flying into London, so much more to see and I would’ve been happy to meet up with you and talk cars and photos. Keep up the good work on Flickr!

Happy to help a fellow Opponaught :) Sadly even google only found the Greater Manchester Motor Museum which appears to be mostly buses.

Ha thanks. Off to the Silverstone Classic this weekend so should be a fair few photos going up next week.
